Conversation is building in higher education about academic rights to fair use. In Inside Higher Ed, the leading online news source for U.S. higher education, I discussed prevalent "Myths about Fair Use" [2]. Example: "Myth #3: Fair use is easy for an academic--I can take whatever I want because everything I do is noncommercial." In the Chronicle for Higher Education, the leading print/online news source for academics, I discussed do's and don'ts for academics using fair use, which the Chronicle called "The Common Sense of the Fair Use Doctrine." [3] For example: "Don't confuse fair use with the open-source movement or Creative Commons." In both cases, they've spurred some discussion and debate. Please join the discussion!
