Fair Use Video of the Month - Don Loves Roger

Don Loves Roger  mashes up every episode of Mad Men and remixes it into a story about  two men who once preserved concepts of manhood and masculinity but then found relief and happiness in each other, becoming a threat to the very same patriarchal system on which their power and privilege was based. In this remixed narrative, Don has an opportunity to subvert rather than selling traditional masculinity.

While the viral success of this video has brought remix narratives to the forefront of pop culture, note that while you can watch and embed the video on both YouTube and Vimeo, you can only embed from Vimeo. Although fair use claims successfully restored this video to Youtube after a Content ID match, YouTube has chosen to disable embedding on behalf of Lionsgate.

Why it's Fair Use:

SIX: QUOTING IN ORDER TO RECOMBINE ELEMENTS TO MAKE A NEW WORK THAT DEPENDS FOR ITS MEANING ON (OFTEN UNLIKELY) RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE ELEMENTS

The TV show Mad Men is reedited and recombined to make an ironic and critical second reading of the original source materials. Cutaways and dialog are taken out of their original context to rearticulate a new story that has a cultural identity of its own that addresses a different audience than its original components intended.
