Center's Human Rights Films on Oscar Short List

Oscar The short list for Academy Award nominations includes two of the Center for Media and Social Impact's films in this year's Human Rights Film Series: "The Act of Killing", and "Dirty Wars".

The list includes other notable human rights and political-issue films, including "God Loves Uganda", "The Square" and "Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer".

Other films deal with important subjects as well, such as "The Armstrong Lie" (about Lance Armstrong's long history of deception) and "Which Way Is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington", about the work of a war journalist who died in action. The list, which showcases several styles of documentary, all of which have garnered fest awards and audiences, is one testimonial to the professionalism of social-issue documentary today. Keep your eye on which of the short-listed films is picked for the five nominees.
