Kat's blog--participatory media in action

Those of us who got to go to the Center's Making Your Documentary Matter conference met Katerina Cizek, the National Film Board of Canada filmmaker who's creating videos in collaboration with the staff of a major public hospital in Toronto. Now her website has launched, at www.nfb.ca/filmmakerinresidence, so we can track the evolution of the NFB's latest experiment in participatory media. The NFB launched this strand of its endeavors in the 1960s with Challenge for Change, led by the legendary George Stoney (who was also at this year's Making Your Documentary Matter, by the way). Challenge for Change helped disenfranchised voices, including indigenous people and women beginning to articulate a feminist agenda, to reach Canadian audiences. Cizek's project reinvents the mission with new tools. Take a look, and tell us what you think.
