Update on Code of Best Practices in Sustainable Filmmaking

As key author on the Code of Best Practices in Sustainable Filmmaking, Larry Engel will be spending the summer promoting the Code at upcoming festivals and conferences this summer and fall. Andrew Buchanan, his co-author of the Code of Best Practices in Sustainable Filmmaking, will "attend" where possible via Skype. Leading off is a session on Friday, June 12th in Savannah, Georgia at the Blue Ocean Film Festival. The following week he will be at Silverdocs in Washington, DC on June 18th. Two more sessions will be held at the UFVA annual conference in New Orleans in August and at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival (JHWFF) in September.

Larry and Andrew also worked closely with Lisa Samford, the executive director of JHWFF, to bring carbon offsets to delegates. It is a voluntary program this year and offers delegates the opportunity to offset their travel and lodging at the time of registration or at anytime during the festival via text messaging. They also partnered with Native Energy, a major carbon offsetter that offers a variety of offsets including Gold Standards, for this exciting new program.

Engel expects to provide similar opportunities at all the festivals and conferences that he attends. Please follow him on Twitter at engelfilm.

The workshops will provide an in-depth presentation and discussion of the Code and how current and future filmmakers are using it in practice to reduce their productions' carbon impact and offset that which remains.
